Hi, everyone. I’ve put up three new Gita Talk blogs in the last week. Here they are:
Gita Talk #5: Sublimely Simple, Profound and Livable
Welcome to Gita Talk–General Information
Highlights (Gita Talk #4): “What is God to You?” & “Dealing with Our Emotions”
Please come and join in the conversation.
Gita Talk #4: Why Is the Gita So Upsetting At First?
•May 10, 2010 • Leave a CommentThe next blog in our ongoing discussion of the Bhagavad Gita is now available on Elephant Journal. Please go there and jump into the discussion. We’d love to hear from you.
Gita Talk #3: It’s Showtime. Please Start Talking All At Once
•May 3, 2010 • Leave a CommentOK, sports fans, the game is on. This is our first weekly discussion of Mitchell’s Bhagavad Gita. This week we’re talking about the Introduction, which goes through p. 35 (with ten pages of very interesting notes, pages 199-210.)
Before I forget, the reading for next Monday is Chapters 1 and 2, pages 41-60.
This is a true experiment. So I’m just going to play it by ear. The best thing that can happen is if you all jump right into the game, instead of watching from the sidelines. I know we’ll have a great discussion if you:
–Tell us what’s on your mind.
–Ask us the questions you were asking yourself as you were reading the Introduction.
–And especially, read other readers comments and reply with your questions, disagreements, or comments.

Graham Schweig’s Rapturous Vision of the Gita
•May 1, 2010 • Leave a CommentGraham Schweig is one of the world’s leading Gita and Sanskrit scholars. This 7 min. video expresses his vision of the Gita in the rapturous language of love.
Think about how Schweig’s “God is Love” vision of the Gita compares to Stephen Mitchell’s God as the “Life-Force of the Universe“.
This is great preparation for our first Gita Talk discussion blog, which will be posted Monday morning at 10am CST.
“The Fat Yogini” by Mahita Devi–One of My Favorite Yoga Stories

Hallelujah! Mahita Devi has published one of my favorite Yoga stories on Elephant Journal:
The Fat Yogini: Making Peace with Our Bodies
And isn’t that just about the cutest Ganesh (Elephant God) you’ve ever seen?
Gita Talk #2: Greetings, Gita Geeks. How is your reading coming?
•April 27, 2010 • Leave a Comment(This is copy of the “Gita Talk #2″ blog on Elephant Journal. You are welcome to comment below, but I prefer that you click over to Elephant so we can keep most of the discussion in one place. Thanks.)
Greetings, Gita Geeks. How is your reading coming?
Starting on Monday, May 3rd, we’ll begin discussion on our first reading assignment, which runs through page 35. (see Gita Talk #1: First Assignment–Read the Introduction ). Hopefully you all have your book by now.
We’ll keep things moving with a reading assignment and discussion blog every Monday. I’m guessing some things will generate so much discussion that I’ll put out some special topic blogs as well. We’ll see how it goes.
I hope you will ask questions, comment, and reply freely as we move forward. We’re depending on your enthusiastic participation.
We welcome questions and comments at all levels. We have a wide variety of experience, from first time readers to veteran devotees. That should make for some really interesting discussions for everyone.
Right now, tell us about your impressions of the Gita going in and anything else you’d like to ask or discuss before we get rolling in earnest on May 3rd.
Thanks for joining us.
Facebook and Twitter
I’ve set up a Facebook group for us called “Gita Talk at Elephant Journal”. It will allow us to send each other direct messages. I hope you will all join this group, but it’s not required. It’s an optional group for us to get to know each other better and to attract more participants. The Elephant Journal blogs will be where all the action is.
I’ve also created a hashtag #gitatalk on Twitter. This is another optional way for us to talk to each other. Just include #gitatalk whenever you write a tweet you want us to see and keep an eye on #gitatalk so you’ll see any tweets that we write. Again, this is entirely optional. (Since this online book discussion is an experiment, I’m experimenting.)
“Gita Talk”Gets Rolling on Elephant Journal
•April 18, 2010 • 2 CommentsThe response to my Gita Talk blog was overwhelming, with over 50 enthusiastic people agreeing to join us for an online discsussion of the Bhagavad Gita.
Please click over to Gita Talk #1: First Assignment–Read the Introduction on Elephant Journal. We’d love to see you there.
Gita Talk–An Experiment in Online Book Discussion
•April 17, 2010 • 7 Comments
Hi, Everyone. I’m looking for a few volunteers to participate in an online book discussion. We’ll read through the Bhagavad Gita together and discuss it on my Elephant Journal blog, with simultaneous posts to Yoga Journal Community.
All you’ll be committing to is reading the book and making a comment on each of my blog posts, which will come out chapter-by-Chapter about once a week. (The book is short–only 205 pages.)
The discussion will, of course, be open to anyone, just like any other blog. But I want to make sure I have a core group of participants before I get started.
Please let me know if you’re interested.
I’m also interested in a really catchy name. So far my favorite is “Gita Talk”.
A Favorite Writer Make Her Debut on Elephant Journal
•April 15, 2010 • 1 CommentOne of my favorite writers, Mahita Devi, makes her debut on Elephant Journal with “Serenity Now“.
Please make it a point to click over there, enjoy the story, and welcome Mahita to Elephant with a comment.
(I’ve even linked to the related Seinfeld clips in my comment there.)
Thanks.
